You also didn't mention that Samsung had a tablet, Samsung Q1. Back then, they were marketed as Ultra portable PCs. I don’t consider stylus-based screens “touchscreens” — they’re more like press-screens, working on the pressure of a fine-tipped instrument like a stylus or fingernail.
And while tablet technology has been around forever, it has never been done well enough or compellingly enough to sell a nontrivial number of units and build up a meaningful installed base — until the iPad.
